Contact me

This website is a place to share nature recordings, both mine and other researchers.  I first began recording nature sounds as a college kid in Oregon in the 1960′s. With retirement I am again afforded the opportunity to pursue my life long passion.

From time to time I do post articles for other researchers on the blog. If you have written something that you would like to share with others please contact me.

If you have a comment or suggestions please email me at: stancourtney@hotmail.com. or you can leave a comment here in the form below.

    Hi Mary,

Just listened to the Illinois Howl. On a night in November, I do not recall the day. I sat in a large white pine on the North side of the property overlooking the river bottom. Some time after sunset, possibly 35 to 45mins. I heard something like this howl. I recall thinking it was not a coyote and there were to calls one as I got out of the treestand and one as I walked more than 100yds from the stand. the first one was directly to the south of me on or near the levee and the second was further to the southwest near another partial levee.

I wish I had paid more attention at the time. I can tell you that I walked back to the barn with my marine KBAR in my hand. It just did not sound like a coyote. It was just one animal and I thought it sounded more like a wolf until I heard the Illinois howl.

thanks for the research info and the conversation tonight.

    Hi Stan

Where did you and your wife go in Colo. I’ve spent lots of 1st rifle seasons in The West Elk Wilderness north of Gunnison. Absolutly beatiful from a maryland boys perspective. Oh and by the way the two beast was great. Funny when we make a little fun of THE ONE, The tolerant ones come out of the woodwork.

    Keep lookin up

    Hi Stan,
Have you had much experience with stick structures. I have found 4 that I think are clearly not human. 3 of the 4 were within sight distance of a ski trail, hike and bike path.
This has really intrigued me as I looked at many remote locations with no success.
Are they trying to leave a sign for humans??

    Hi Philip,

I have seen a few stick structures that I thought were interesting but it really isn’t my area of interest. I would say about 95 % of the time they are heard and not seen. That is why I like audio recording.
