10.15Field Recorders
I receive many requests for recommendations about recorders. As everyone’s interest
and budget is different it is not an easy question to answer. I wrote a series of
six articles to at least attempt to guide individuals towards a system that will be
of benefit to them.
Instead of giving an in-depth review of each recorder I will give a general overview by
bringing together links of forums, reviews, sound clips and videos on YouTube.
These articles can be found at:

Hi Stan,
Just wanted to past this along to you about field recorders. It gives a compairison of how good they are. I found that the wihite noise is what is important and the Sony PCM-M10 has none at all! And, it has a battery life of 43 hrs. Here’ the web site and listen to the “speech” section test.

By the way I find that your site is very well put together and gives great info. on things.

Hi John,
My goal in field recording is multi-faceted.
For me to use a field recorder it needs to have -
1. Excellent sound quality.
2. Long battery life.
3. Long recording storage.
The PCM-M10 is getting good reviews. Using the microSD card instead of a SDHC allows it to only have a 16 GB vs the 32GB card that both the H-2 and LS-11 use.
